Home in Bethany

“Mary hath chosen the good part, which shall not be taken from her.” (Luke 10:42)

The top symbol is a candle and book. The candle is symbolic of Jesus as the Light of the World. The torch is a closely related symbol. Every person who believes that Jesus Christ is the Light of the World is symbolized by a torch — recalling the saying of Jesus: “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” The two candles on the altar also represent the two natures of Jesus Christ, the human and the Divine. The book represents the Holy Bible, the Word of God — the Truth for all men. Wine is a symbol of the Holy Communion The rose is a symbol of hope, love, our Lord or His nativity. In symbols, a red rose is for martyr; white for purity. Mary, the mother of our Lord, is also a symbol of the rose and she referred to herself as the Rose without Thorns. Christ was called the Rose of Sharon. The angel, symbol of the Greek word “messenger” is a spiritual being created by God and so His will. The symbol at the bottom of this window is Mary in the attitude of worship, as she had for Jesus.
